Osteoporosis is a disease which involves the thinning of bones with age. Osteoporosis is a disease that afflicts many people irrespective of gender or age. The paper attempts to study the correlation between age, gender, and reduction in Bone Mineral Density; and draw inferences using the T- Score. The authors also make suggestions based on the findings of the study. The paper is based on a raw data base of 4900 respondents who had underwent a bone density test in selected areas of the three states viz. Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. STATA software has been employed for the analysis of the study findings. Statistical tools such as frequency, percentages, correlation have been used in the data analysis. The study finds that while 1523 (60.01%) and 365 (14.38%) of females are detected with osteopenia and osteoporosis respectively while the corresponding percentages among the males stood at 50.34 per cent (1189) and 8.64 per cent (204). The study showed that 719 women in the age group of 41-60 were osteopenic while 146 women were already in the second stage of osteoporosis. There is a positive correlation between age and reduction in bone mineral density. However, bone mass depletion is not an occurrence exclusive to the older population. It strikes irrespective of age.
